Your Place to Stay in Hanalei

Thanks for checking out my guest house for your stay here in Hanalei. I do not have a fancy brochure - just a location in one of the truly special spots this world has to offer.

I moved to Honolulu from the East Coast in 1970 - and in 1971 had the opportunity to sail to Hanalei Bay here on the island of Kauai. The physical beauty of the place was spectacular - the green mountains, waterfalls, broad sandy beach, deep blue water - but there was also something much deeper. The Hawaiians have a word, a’ina, which vaguely refers to the spirit of the land - and here in Hanalei and on the entire north shore of Kauai the a’ina is especially strong - a magic quite reminiscent of Puff the Magic Dragon who lived in a land called Hanalee (it had to rhyme).

Suffice it to say that I was hooked. In 1978 I bought a some land and in 1991 moved here to build my home.

So I could share this place with others (and help with the mortgage), I chose to build a guest house as well. It is a free-standing one-bedoom home, completely furnished with a full size kitchen, living and dining area, and a large deck with a view of those mountains and waterfalls after a rain.

If you are looking for nightlife Kauai is probably not the place - but we do have scenery, and hiking trails, and boat or helicopter rides par excellence - to say nothing of miles and miles of beaches and rivers where kayaking provides both exercise and relaxation at the same time. On the other side of the island we even have Waimea Canyon (a midget grand canyon) and desert-like conditions. For food - you can choose from fine (expensive) dining to local eateries or use your own kitchen.
